Director of Business Development

About Us

HealthEx is on a mission to give patients more control over their health data while transforming how healthcare stakeholders collaborate. As an early-stage startup, we’re fast, flexible, and passionate about using technology to improve patient outcomes. We’re looking for an experienced Director of Business Development who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help shape the future of healthcare data.

Role Overview

As our first dedicated commercial hire, you will partner with the company’s founders to architect HealthEx’s go-to-market strategy from the ground up—establishing critical sales processes and systems, engaging with key stakeholders (health systems, private data networks, DTC channel partners, EHR ISVs, and more). Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll forge strategic partnerships and drive revenue, collaborating cross-functionally (product, design, marketing, engineering) and interfacing with C-level executives. Beyond immediate sales and business development responsibilities, you’ll chart a long-term commercial roadmap for the organization, including hiring and mentoring future team members. This high-impact role positions you for a broader leadership opportunity as we continue to scale, shaping both the company’s direction and the evolution of our commercial function.

What You’ll Do

1. Business Development & Sales

  • Identify, source, and close new deals across diverse healthcare segments (health systems, payers, life science companies, etc.).

  • Cultivate existing relationships to accelerate deal closure and successful deployment.

  • Consistently meet or exceed quarterly BD and sales targets.

2. Product Strategy & Solution Positioning

  • Collaborate with product teams to align partner feedback with our roadmap.

  • Refine our value propositions, ROI messaging, and go-to-market plans to resonate with multiple stakeholder groups.

  • Act as the customer’s internal advocate, ensuring our solutions meet market demands.

3. Customer Success & Growth

  • Own relationships with strategic customers, partnering on implementation plans and ongoing support.

  • Maintain high partner satisfaction, retention, and growth by acting as their primary liaison within HealthEx.

  • Translate partner insights into product enhancements and expansion opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing a Sales Plan & Strategy

    • Conduct market & segment analyses to shape our ideal customer profile (ICP).

    • Create compelling value messaging and ROI frameworks tailored to different audiences.

    • Collaborate with product teams to validate new ideas, expand our core offerings, and speed up feedback loops.

  • Sourcing & Closing Deals

    • Craft persuasive outreach materials (emails, decks, proposals) for potential partners.

    • Navigate complex organizations to pinpoint decision makers and influencers.

    • Manage leads in our CRM with accurate forecasts and pipeline data.

    • Work with leadership to finalize pricing strategies aligned with each segment.

  • Partner Execution & Growth

    • Oversee smooth deployments by coordinating with cross-functional teams.

    • Maintain robust partner relationships—monitoring satisfaction, driving renewals, and identifying upsell/cross-sell opportunities.

    • Incorporate partner feedback into product strategies, ensuring we’re always innovating.

  • Market Analysis & User Feedback

    • Track industry trends, regulations (HIPAA, GDPR), and emerging technologies to inform product and market strategies.

    • Conduct user testing and gather partner insights to iterate on our GTM approach.

  • Travel

    • Expect 1–2 days of weekly travel to meet with partners and customers.

    • Join in-person collaborations with our Bay Area team roughly once a month.
